As I wrote in the title in Finnish: I did it again 😛
We started our targeting practice using a targeting stick. This was recommended by Tommi, the trainer at Heiluva Häntä. As you can see in the videos, even when Una is touching the target (the white ball) with her nose, she lifts her lips in a way she (accidently) learned when I taught her to touch my finger.
And, exactly the same way I did with the finger touching practice, I ended up reinforcing Una for touching the ball with her teeth at times. You may hear my attempts to stop myself from laughing (my muffled snorts).
I tried to salvage something by placing the ball in different positions, related to Una’s nose. I was hoping that I might be fast enough to click before she mouths the ball if her biting attempts were slower in one of the positions 🙂 I should probably try to extinguish the biting, but I don’t trust my technique (speed of reaction) enough. I would probably only achieve making Una confused..
I love Una’s expression when she gives the brief “snarl” before touching the target – that always makes me smile 🙂 Not a fatal mistake for the two of us, but certainly a funny one – shouldn’t training be fun?! Una seems to like the training sessions too, judging by her expression 🙂
After the training session, we have relaxed, lying on the living room carpet side by side. I’m happy to have a dog that likes to curl up next to me, to enjoy the company ❤
