Yesterday, we went to Nuuksio. I planned to walk to the small pond we found in Southern Nuuksio a few weeks ago. And there we headed. After walking for 10 minutes, and getting bombarded with deer flies (hirvikärpänen) every 2 seconds, I needed to think what to do. I absolutely hate those crawling creatures, yuck 😦 If there are more than a couple of them landing on me, with a small tap-sound, I almost panic. Since I have never encountered them when I walk on the official trails in Nuuksio, I have deduced that all the people walking there have emptied the surroundings of deer flies.
But if we would go to the official trails, I would have to watch out for people and keep Una on her leash when I hear any approaching. And click and treat her for passing the people calmly, performing our exercise. I pondered which one to choose: the flies or people. People won, after two seconds of hard thinking… Our off-the-track-walkings are over until the first nights when teperatures drop below zero degrees, killing the flies.
Una behaved very nicely. We encountered at least 30 people and Una only barked at one of them 🙂 He looked very suspicious, searching for mushrooms right next to the trail… I’m glad Una fended off this threat 😉
We walked from Siikaranta to Holma-Saarijärvi and had a dinner break on the small island there. There were many people doing the same, and all the good, rocky spots right next to the water were occupied.
It was very nice hike and dinner, sun shining with a light breeze cooling us off. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon – bliss! I think Una would agree, she looks very happy in the two videos below 🙂 I believe the only flaw in her hike was a selfish owner who ate all the sandwiches by herself, feeding her the boring kibble only 😉
