Yesterday, I clipped Una’s coat, my parents were helping. I wanted to make this first session as comfortable as possible for Una, so everyone participated! My mother stood by Una, making sure that she doesn’s step off the small trimming table by accident, and my father held Una’s head and fed her treats 🙂
Una was a bit scared of standing on the table at first, but some cheese helped her to get over it. The clipper was okay, and Una sat or stood very nicely through the operation!
I didn’t even think of clipping her to look anything else than a schnauzer… She looks close enough to one, and that’s the style I have always done with my schnauzers. So, Una transformed to a naked, grey schnauzer 🙂 In the video clip below, she is running in my parents’ backyard after I washed her, and drying herself on the grass:
Una was not very happy with the result: she is itching. I washed her very thoroughly right after the clipping, which removed any loose hair, which helps. But she is very sensitive about her skin, and it will probably take a few days before she settles. I planned to use a 9.5 mm blade that would leave the coat longer, but the Musti ja Mirri stores in Jyväskylä didn’t have it in stock. Next time I will use the new blade, and Una won’t itch as much. Below, you can see her lying down, contemplating, irritably, her new existence as an itching schnauzer…
