I have given Una the first three weeks to just get to know me and her new surroundings. Now I plan to start training her little by little, to offer her activities that stimulate her brain. Mostly nose-work, which is a very good way to get a dog tired!
We started today, just before I started to write this post, by searching tiny bits of cheese hidden behind my dinner table legs, on the floor. Una was very unsure about what I want from her, and didn’t have the courage (or the learned, situation-specific skill) to start searching, even when I showed her very clearly where I put the treat, and so I helped her a lot. She was so unsure she tried to sit, offer her paw, lay down, ask for petting, anything she could think of I could be asking!
This exercise lasted maybe 5 minutes, and Una was clearly tired after the hard thinking! Now she is lying on my living room carpet, sound asleep 🙂
In the picture on the left, Una is learning to lie down on cue on a dinner break while hiking in Salmi recreational forest. 🙂
