Elämä Koirille brought many dogs to Finland on July 29th, and Una was one of them! Usually, they drive to Hämeenkoski where the dogs are handed out to their new owners. However, I drove to Vaalimaa to meet them because we met at the border with Anna, who had managed to arrange a trip to accompany Una.
It was nerve-wracking to wait at the petrol station for the caravan to arrive! Finally, I got Anna’s SMS to let me know they have crossed the border. We met at a parking lot, where I got a first glimpse of Una. She was with Anna and her friend, looking a bit bewildered. And sweet 🙂 She took a cautious sniff at my leg while we shook hands with Anna. I would have wanted to make more contact with her right away, of course, but stayed polite and let Una set the pace at getting acquainted.
We had adequate time to discuss Una while the paperwork was done for all the dogs crossing the border. It was very clear that Una was 100% Anna’s dog: stayed close to her all the time, on leash or off.
When it was time for goodbyes, Anna put Una in my car, I gave Anna a hug to thank her for letting me adopt Una, and we started the drive towards Espoo. Poor Una, she was so upset when Anna didn’t come with us. She panted heavily and paced around the whole drive! I felt so sorry for her and would have wanted to explain what’s happening…
